Job Description

As an Architect II, you are a member of PNC's Architecture and Engineering Team. You will be based in either Cleveland, OH or Pittsburgh, PA. Responsibilities include: Resident subject matter expert within the Unix, Midrange and Linux technologies. Responsible for developing and maintaining the multi-year capability roadmaps, product availability matrices and reference architectures for the following platforms AIX, Solaris and RedHat Linux. Providing technical leadership and a constant overall focus for the midrange and distributed platforms. Increase team’s skill level through cross training and mentorship. Provide guidance and assistance for new infrastructure architecture and design. Actively contribute to storage, virtualization and hosting reference architectures and technology decisions.


Your hours will typically be daylight, Monday through Friday, with an occasional need for afterhours or weekend support. Within the day, there will be a variety of support and project activity, with a pace set by business and department demands. In your role, you will draw upon your technical knowledge, work experience, project coordination skills, problem solving abilities and interpersonal proficiency.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

Required:

* Bachelors degree in IT related field or equivalent experience

* 7+ years experience supporting AIX , Solaris, Linux and Windows

* Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

Midrange server skills:

a. 5 or more years of understanding/troubleshooting AIX 5.2, 5.3 and Solaris 8, 9, 10

b. 3 or more years of SUN virtualization technologies, such as LDOMs, zones and containers.

c. 3 or more years understanding/troubleshooting IBM Power Virtualization

d. 3 or more year’s functional knowledge of shell scripting

e. 3 or more year’s knowledge of VM ESX hosts 3.0, 3.5, and RHEL 4, 5

f. Strong knowledge Storage Foundation and Clustering 4, 5 and SAN Technology.

g. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP understanding and background.

h. Strong knowledge of IBM and SUN Hardware

i. Strong knowledge of VCS, IBM GPFS and Oracle RAC and HACMP

Networking skills:

a. 3 or more years of understanding of Routing Technologies. i.e.: (2610 to 7206)

b. 3 or more years troubleshooting Routing protocols. i.e.: (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)

c. 3 or more years of LAN switching troubleshooting and understanding. i.e.: (2924 to 650)

d. Good protocol understanding background. i.e.: (TCP/IP, SNA)

e. F5 LTM experience is a plus

Storage skills:

a. Must have a understanding of SAN and NAS concepts

b. Must understand of RAID technologies

c. Must understand of storage replication approaches and concepts

Security skills:

a. Must have a general understanding of security concepts and firewall technologies

b. Must have a strong understanding of authentication and authorization technologies

c. Must have a general understanding of LDAP

Application skills:

a. Must have a strong understanding of Java hosting

b. Must have a strong understanding of HTTP hosting

c. Must have general understanding of Message Oriented Middleware such as IBM WebSphere MQ, JBoss Messaging/HornetQ, JBoss ESB and webMethods.

d. Must have a general understanding of RDMS specifically Oracle.

e. Must have a general understanding of cloud and grid based computing models and their applications

f. Must have a general understanding of monitoring and management toolsets.
