Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Install underground utility pipelines (large diameter) for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Perform any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches by hand while using a transit or pipe laser leveling systems, assist utility operators, inspect pipe for defects, position pipe, and seal joints. Wet utility experience preferred. Most of our projects job sites are centrally located in the Denver Metro area!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
  • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
  • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement with hand tools or with the assistance of heavy equipment.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, glue or soap.
  • Install or repair sanitary or storm, water and sewer structures or pipe systems.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
  • Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
  • Pour and finish concrete to create the manhole base, or install prefabricated manhole bases, sections, cones, rings and lids to the required elevations.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
  • Operate walk-behind trench compaction equipment, such as plate compactors, rollers, or jumping jacks.
  • General knowledge of site safety standards, trench box/shoring installation and safe trenching practices.
  • Must have the ability to follow direction, be a reliable team player with good attendance

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Underground utility installation experience required
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening
  • Current (within 3 years of hire date) Federal OSHA 10-hour Construction Certificate (or completion of the course within 60 days of employment)

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, eye and ear protection, safety vest, gloves, dust mask or respirator, fall protection gear, etc.). Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions.
