Job Description

GCB has an immediate opening for a SUD Counselor (Substance Use Disorder) at Shelterhouse. This position is a full time job and eligible for a full benefits package! 

The ideal candidate will have a LCDC III or be licensed as a LPC or LSW and have experience working with individuals substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment.  We offer free continuing education credits to maintain your license and tuition assistance benefits to obtain your master's degree ($1,500 per semester for MSW or MA in Counseling).

Position Responsibilities for SUD Counselor:   
  • Completes diagnostic assessments and treatment planning with individuals seeking services for concerns regarding addiction.  
  • Facilitates therapeutic cognitive behavioral based groups for substance use treatment.
  • Conducts individual and family counseling sessions to identify the needs/challenges of the client which may be interfering with the recovery process as well as establishing strong support systems beyond the treatment team. 
  • Makes referrals for additional counseling needs as indicated and/or other services that may enhance the client’s quality of life and improve the likelihood of recovery.
  • Provides linkage and/or referrals to community resources such as school, employment, housing, health facilities, or other identified necessary services to enhance the client’s quality of life and improve likelihood of recovery.
  • When needed, provides case management services for the client including contact and coordination of care within the community such as with family members, probation officers, courts, other providers, health insurance companies etc…
  • Meets appropriate standards for service delivery as defined within the organization as well as from regulatory/accrediting bodies. 
  • Pursues adequate and appropriate training so that skills in counseling are enhanced and requirements for certification and/or licensing are met.

Position Requirements for SUD Counselor:
  • Ohio LCDC III, LSW, or LPC required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Service or Addictions Field preferred.
  • Master’s Level in Social Work or Counseling preferred. 
  • Position requires occasional driving of the employee’s personal vehicle. Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and insurable driving record are required.
