POSITION: Corps Pianist/Musician

DEPARTMENT: Sacramento Citadel Corps, Alhambra Campus

LOCATION: Sacramento, CA

SUPERVISOR: Corps Officer(s)

STATUS: On-Call

BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to provide musical (piano/organ) accompaniment for the worship team, senior songsters and youth singing company during worship services. Additionally, the corps musician will attend and provide musical accompaniment during senior songster practices, worship team rehearsal and music youth programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide musical accompaniment (piano, organ) for the worship team, senior songsters and singinging company during Sunday worship services.
  • Provide accompaniment for youth programs and performances such as youth singing company, Encore and other performances.
  • Provide musical accompaniment for worship team, songsters and other musical groups during midweek practices.
  • To teach music lessons for youth and adults interested in learning music.
  • Develop a volunteer led music program focusing on piano and guitar skills.
  • Recruit volunteer music teachers.
  • Be available to provide accompaniment for special services as needed
  • May be occasionally required to travel in or out of state with musical groups to events such Encore, Divisional Youth Retreat, etc.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at least 2 years in Piano and Music Theory training
  • Must be experienced in Worship and Praise music.
  • Must be able to read and sight-read Music
  • Must possess good people skills and the ability to interact positively with children and adults
  • Be able to take direction from supervisors, songster leader, meeting leaders or worship team leader.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
  • Must complete The Salvation Army's "Protecting the Mission" child safety training withing first two weeks of employment.

PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate under stressful working conditions in a rapidly changing work environment with multiple priorities is required. Ability to physically interact with children including reaching, stooping, kneeling, handling objects and moving or lifting objects up to 40 pounds. Some travel may be required. Must be able to fill in for jobs when staff members are absent, which may require the employee to stand for up to 2 hours or more at a time; must be able to walk, run, crouch, stoop, reach and grasp with hands and arms.

Experience
Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. (required)
