The Role
Tesla is looking for a process development engineer to create, develop, and scale formation processes for our cutting-edge Tesla battery cell manufacturing line. This role will work within a cross-functional engineering team to design and execute process development trials to improve the mass production formation process. In this role, you will work closely with equipment, quality, and module teams to conduct trials, analyze results, define protocols, and communicate learnings.
Responsibilities
Drive development of new formation protocols from proof of concept to deployed on mass production scale
Execute DoEs to optimize process protocols and validate future factory designs
Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data, using insights to inform process changes
Communicate process changes, development roadmap, and updates to cross-functional teams
Build and maintain process documentation to define the process (PFMEA, OCAP, etc.)
Create test plan agreements for post-formation cell characterization
Work with production material planning to coordinate cell allocation for trials and execute on priorities
Requirements
Either a BS with 6+ years' relevant experience or an MS with 3+ years relevant experience in chemical engineering, process development, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent. Senior roles available for more experienced candidates
Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development
Demonstrated capabilities in process development, experimental design/execution, and driving continuous improvement
Experience with Python and/or SQL for data analysis is desired
