Job Description

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for performing, reviewing, and maintaining all planning, scheduling, and order releasing activities for their individually assigned products to ensure that customer delivery commitments are met. These parts include master scheduled parts, assembled end items, machined components, and purchased parts. Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Review Material Requirements Planning (MRP) for purchased part requirements and release purchase orders, as required.
  • Ensure material availability and supplier capacity to support production needs. Identify and resolve short term material shortages as required.
  • Manage supplier delivery schedules.
  • Resolve ASN and PO discrepancies.
  • Develop and utilize various reports to manage open purchase orders (move-in/move-out) as business demands require.
  • Evaluate the supply base for potential delivery problems. Take actions to solve and/or mitigate the issues.
  • Implement and utilize advanced procurement methods such as consignment, stocking programs, and milk-runs.
  • Manage inventory levels to achieve/maintain budgeted levels.
  • Review inventories for Excess and Obsolescence.
  • Maintain planning parameters including safety stocks, MOQs, etc.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Strategic Procurement to resolve issues, as required.
  • Review and process Engineering changes and new product releases, as required.
  • Establish procedures and work instructions for each job function within tactical purchasing. Train others as required.
Background & Skills

The ideal candidate possesses these skills.

  • 4 Year Degree from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Two to four years' experience in Production Planning/Scheduling, Purchasing and/or Customer Service in a formal MRP environment.
  • APICS Certification is preferred.
  • Must have good oral and written communications skills.
  • SAP experience.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel).

Work Environment:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately high.
