Job Description

Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services (GCBHS) is looking for Hamilton County Benefits/SSA Specialist for our Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic in Cincinnati.

We are looking for BSW or Psychology or Sociology or Criminal Justice or related Human Services degree graduates or candidates with a HS Diploma and 3+ Years of related Mental Health experience.  GCBHS offers great career advancement opportunities and a rich benefits package including Tuition Assistance ($1,500 per semester for a MSW or MA in Counseling).  We also provide practicum supervision, license supervision, and continuing education credits.

This is a direct service position responsible for coordinating all aspects of clients Job and Family Service and/or SSA benefits including but not limited to: initial application, interim reporting, recertification, and appeal.  Assist clients and staff in understanding client benefit status and needs.  Track and monitor approvals and denials.  Collaborate and liaison with JFS/SSA staff as needed. Collaborate and liaison with GCB staff regarding required documentation and verifications.

Responsibilities for Benefits Specialist:

  • Conducts initial and/or on-going assessment and verification of client Medicaid coverage, resources/income, fees, eligibility for JFS/SSA benefits, benefit status and benefit entitlements.
  • Assist, monitor and troubleshoot process and collaborate with other involved GCBHS staff until benefits are acquired.
  • Meets with clients for benefits counseling to assess and help them understand their JFS/SSA benefits and any required documentation/verifications.
  • Track and monitor all approvals and denials and the rationale for the decision.
  • Liaison with community partners to assist with clients obtaining and retaining JFS/SSA benefits.
Requirements for Benefits Specialist:
  • BA in Psychology, Social Work, or a related Human Services field or a minimum high school diploma plus 3 years experience in mental health.
  • Administrative skills required.
  • Experience in social services and behavioral health preferred but not required.
