The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications and nominations for the position of Academic Unit Head. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in research, education, and clinical and community engagement, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment within the department. The Academic Unit Head will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, promoting scholarly activities, and ensuring the continued growth and success of the department within the framework of the university's mission and goals.
The Academic Unit Head position will be hired as full professor on the Educator or Tenure Track.Competitive salary support will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) has a large and diverse graduate program including both distance learning and on-campus MA-SLP programs, an AuD program, and a PhD program. There is also a well-developed, high-enrollment undergraduate program. Faculty within CSD represent adjunct, clinical, educator, research, and tenure track professors. Staff within the department include program managers, financial administrators, and program coordinators for the clinic. The CSD department is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA).
The department has established, long-running collaborations across the university and with highly regarded, local health and educational entities, such as the Cincinnati Public Schools, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs, and UC Health. Aligned with these collaborations, we have a large portfolio of clinical placement opportunities in area hospitals, clinics, and schools. The department also runs an on-site speech and hearing clinic that provides student training and clinical services.
The College of Allied Health Sciences educates and prepares future allied health and other health science professionals to provide high quality service in their respective fields. In conjunction with community-based partners, students achieve clinical skills and learn the values of critical thinking, good communication, teamwork, cultural competence, and service learning. The college's faculty is committed to excellence in research, teaching, service, and leadership. The College of Allied Health Sciences consists of four academic units including: Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; Department of Rehabilitation, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences; Department of Clinical Health and Information Sciences; and the School of Social Work.
