This role can be performed in Kansas City, Cleveland, in another CBIZ MHM office, or on a fully-remote basis.

Objective

The Manager of Independence will work as a member of MHM's National Team. This role is a key function of risk management and will report to MHM's National Director of Ethics & Independence. This role requires a basic understanding of the various independence rules, the ability to research and apply independence standards to a variety of circumstances, and a desire to grow as a member of MHM's National Team.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

  • Assists the National Director of Ethics and Independence in developing and administering independence and ethics related processes, guidance, tools and training.
  • Develops preliminary guidance with respect to assigned incoming requests relating to independence or ethics matters from engagement teams.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of tools such as the MHM independence grid.
  • Assists in the administration of the independence survey process and related verification procedures, including preliminary analysis of matters identified.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and assists with the development and delivery of training for personnel.
  • Participates in professional development activities to maintain and increase independence-related skills.
  • Maintains strong, collaborative partnership with cross-functional and inter-company team members to enable and implement strategies for effective Risk Management.
  • Drives a team environment; demonstrates support of management decisions and builds a positive culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • History of increasing responsibilities inside a CPA firm
  • Knowledge of Independence and ethical requirements for CPA firms
  • Ability to identify and recommend process improvements
  • Ability to work independently, recognizing when escalation is required
  • Strong ability to communicate information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
  • Ability to quickly prioritize as circumstances requires; can efficiently and effectively address a broad range of competing priorities

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
  • Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
  • Proficient use of applicable technology

In compliance with states that have an active pay transparency law, the annual salary target for this job in this market is $125,000-$150,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position.
