Why do we need you ?

The Process Sustainability Engineer II will plan, lead, and implement initiatives throughout the Saint-Gobain North America (SGNA) organization in pursuit of its robust sustainability goals. These goals include reduction in operational energy/CO2 emissions, water, waste, & Scope 3/Supply Chain emission reduction, as well as creating Circularity in its operations and products. This person will lead teams from all parts of the organization to successful accomplish these goals and create an engaged workforce on sustainability initiatives.

  • Guide NA sustainability strategy through business unit and sites support to advance progress on operational sustainability through process efficiency, technology upgrades, and investment decisions. This may including developing internal initiatives, managing partnerships, completing analysis, building tools/resources, managing projects, and communicating results and progress.
  • Lead onsite solar program to expand the portfolio of solar projects within the SG manufacturing network in collaboration with external services providers and internal stakeholders. This includes identifying and developing site specific opportunities, manage RFPs, evaluate project proposals, lead contract negotiations, navigate internal reviews and approval, manage handover to site teams for final engineering, construction, and project completion. his individual will be an important leader in this initiative, serving as an internal expert in renewable energy, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and other onsite energy opportunities.
  • Manage multiple central data report requirements across NA network to ensure sites/BUs understand requirements, submit quality data, track and validate progress, and provide analysis to inform strategy. This includes managing multiple reporting campaigns, developing and providing trainings, completing detailed analysis of data, and creating progress report and presentations. Data analysis and reporting tasks may included internal monthly/annual campaigns and reviews, external surveys, case studies and validation of communications, submitting for external awards, and presenting internally or externally on SGNA activities.
  • Champion efforts and initiatives to accelerate progress towards our sustainability goals - including energy efficiency and decarbonization (particularly thermal/Scope 1), water & waste, to ensure business units and sites have the clear strategy and the necessary support to achieve their goals. This individual will function as a critical leader and subject matter expert in thermal efficiency, heat recovery, as well as evaluating emerging technologies in decarbonization (heat pumps, waste heat to energy, biofuels, thermal storage, hydrogen, etc.). This will includes the design and implementation of strategy across various business units and priority sites, developing tools and partnerships, managing specific initiatives, and tracking/reporting results.
  • Provide additional ad hoc support for some of the many other programs and initiatives led by the central ESG/Sustainability group, such as offsite utility scale renewables (VPPAs), and distributed generation/microgrids, regulated carbon markets trading, and Scope 3 carbon tracking and reduction. All of which is intended to add value to each site and business, while promoting Saint-Gobain products and policies to reduce and conserve energy, water, waste, materials, and carbon emissions.
  • Coordinate with other functional groups and external partners including the global EHS/ESG group, Purchasing, R&D, Communications, Legal, provide expertise and guidance on Saint-Gobain strategy and establish policies and procedures relative to sustainability, energy, water, waste, & CO2, circularity, and renewables.
  • Create and maintain SGNA's partnership and relationship with external groups including the Department of Energy's (DOE) Better Plants challenge, Renewable Thermal Collaborative, EPA Green Power Partnership, etc.

To make sure nothing is forgotten

Education:

  • Bachelor's: Engineering, Electrical, Civil, Environments Engineering, or related field is required
  • Master's: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental, Engineering is preferred

Experience:

  • 2-5 years: Manufacturing, operations, and engineering leadership is required
  • 1-3 years: Sustainability/CSR/ESG program management - C02, waste, water, energy reductions
  • 1-3 years: Demand side energy and renewables management

Other Knowledge/Skills:

  • Familiar with manufacturing environments and common industrial process equipment
  • Strong leadership, project management, strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly articulate complex subjects to all levels of a global organization
  • Strong technical skills to gain credibility with engineers and operations leadership
  • Ables to provide recommendation to improve current processes
  • Strong analytical skills in order to understand complex situations and propose solutions
  • Drive programs across the business units and develop new initiatives

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) - Preferred
