Overview

The Family Resource Center (FRC) Liaison assumes primary responsibility of assisting families with services provided in the FRC. The FRC Liaison assists all families coming to the FRC by providing helpful amenities, information, and sustaining an environment that is comfortable and supportive while their child is hospitalized or receiving healthcare services at Nationwide Children's Hospital; collates data for FRC programs; prepares reports; collaborates with department staff in planning and implementing activities, programs, and special events; provides training, supervision, and support for volunteers.

Role is parttime - 16 hours per week

Work Schedule: 2 Openings

    Wed and Thurs - 7:30am-2:00pm or 11:30am -6:00pm
  • Friday - 7:30am-Noon or 11:30am-4pm (3 Fridays per month)
  • Saturday - 9am-2:00pm (1 Saturday per month)

Responsibilities

1. Maintains the FRC as a welcoming respite for families providing amenities such as current reading materials, clean toys, diversional resources, and fresh snacks. Arranges for cleaning and repairs with appropriate departments.

2. Interacts with families incorporating active listening skills. Refers families to appropriate care team members or Patient/Family Relations when concerns fall to their purview.

3. Facilitates concierge services fielding concerns and questions families may have; provides information and directions in assisting families identifies resources for supportive services, meals, transportation, and lodging as well as information about Ronald McDonald House, and
collaborates with staff Clinical Services and Care Coordination, as needed.

4. Assists families in locating information and materials in the FRC and uses the online catalog to assist them in locating additional resources

5. Teaches health related topics to families in a simulated environment.

6. Documents teaching and shares, through written or oral communications, teaching strategies with the RN Manager responsible for care.

7. Schedules the education rooms according to FRC guidelines and assists FRC Coordinator and educators with preparations for classes, the use of education rooms, and the maintenance of classrooms and educational resources.

8. Assists families with use of center resources including computers, fax, copier, vending, exercise equipment, and laundry facilities.

9. Assists mothers with use of breast pump equipment. Contacts Lactation Consultants for mothers expressing problems with breast feeding.

10. Maintains calendar of events occurring within the FRC; works with outside community groups to facilitate programs within the FRC.

11. Collates data regarding facility and resource usage.

12. Identifies and implements strategies for improving quality of family experience with Nationwide Children's Hospital.

13. Identifies opportunities for volunteer involvement; trains, supervises and recognizes the contributions of volunteers assigned to the FRC.

14. Seeks information about diversity and is culturally sensitive to the diversity of families and other customers, upholding Nationwide Children's customer service in developing programs, interactions, and providing services.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduate or equivalent; business courses preferred

2. Proficient in the use of a personal computer (communications, data entry, and report preparation)

3. Excellent communication and customer service skills in interacting with a diverse group of families, employees, volunteers, and other customers

4. Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to work in an open environment with little direct supervision
