Job Description

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Principal Agile Specialist with a strong background in Agile methodologies and the ability to drive agile process change at both a team and enterprise level. Experience in software development, product development, and implementing Agile methodologies are critical elements for success. We are looking for someone skilled at building and managing a high-performing team in a dynamic environment. As a Principal Agile Specialist, you will help develop an Agile vision and strategy for IDEXX R&D, focusing on sustainable improvement in our ability to deliver quality software. As a critical member of the IDEXX team, this position will join a vibrant and committed group of entrepreneurial leaders driving advancement in veterinary health information technology leveraging an agile software development approach.

We are happy for this position to be fully remote in the US or based in one of our offices.

A bit more about the role:

  • Guides team and organization on how to utilize Agile/Scrum practices, principles and values

  • Provides support to team using servant leadership style, leading by example and by being an empathetic leader who serves

  • Assesses Agile maturity of team and organization and coaches to higher levels of maturity

  • Ensures Agile/Scrum events take place and are positive, productive and within the timebox

  • Helps team find ways to deliver incrementally to provide value while decreasing risk

  • Builds trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame or retribution and with an emphasis on problem-solving

  • Facilitates discussion, decision making and conflict resolution and advocates for the team

  • Helps team develop flow for their development cycle and makes recommendations as necessary to increase efficiencies and decrease risk

  • Observes sprint health indicators, identifies and socializes continuous improvement opportunities and creates team plans through retrospective reviews

  • Helps team find sustainable pace while maintaining and sharing flow metrics to help with transparency, optionality and predictability

  • Supports Product Owners and teams in backlog management, refinement of user stories and other product backlog items

  • Works with Product Owner and team to ensure use of strong user stories with clear functional intent and well-defined acceptance criteria

  • Communicates effectively with teams, Product Owners, the business and leadership

  • Aids internal and external communication while improving transparency

  • Identifies risk, communicates risk appropriately and recommends mitigation strategies or facilitates team discussions to create mitigation plans

  • Supports organization in its Agile adoption by building learning, sharing and continuous improvement culture

  • Supports local and community Agile Guilds and Communities of Practice (COP)

  • Helps identify training needs for new employees, teams and stakeholders in Lean, Agile and Scrum adoption

So what are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • 10 or more years of experience

  • Scrum, Kanban or Agile certification preferred

  • SAFe experience

  • Agile Scaling Methodology experience

  • Desire to work with Agile Teams

  • Hands-on experience with Agile (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

  • Knowledge of scaling Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum @ Scale, Scrum of Scrums, SAFe, or LeSS)

  • Familiarity with software collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, Rally, Miro and analytic tools

  • Demonstrated experience with progressive responsibilities working with software development teams

  • Experience with fundamentals of software development processes and procedures

  • Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments and DevSecOps development practices

  • Demonstrates competencies and skills related to servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment and increasing transparency

  • Self-starter with focus on professional development and personal continuous improvement

  • Fosters teams that are intentional about assessing problems and devising solutions through critical thinking processes

  • Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills. Capable of understanding broad range of viewpoints and building consensus

  • Advanced verbal, presentation, facilitation and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates high level of analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Hits ground running and comfortable engaging and leading distributed/virtual teams

  • Most importantly understands how to work smart yet have fun!
