The Children's Hospital Primary Care Center is looking for a full time Clinical Research Assistant II to assist with upcoming projects with subject matter including evaluating treatment after acute asthma exacerbation, caring for medically and socially complex patients, and child brain development. Responsibilities include data collection, patient recruitment, clinical research project involvement and quality improvement initiative support. The Research Assistant will work closely with various researchers and other practice staff with all aspects of study design and implementation, including managing excel spreadsheets to collect and track data, recruiting patients and families to take part in research studies or clinic quality improvement initiatives, making outreach calls, and performing basic data analysis. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
This Clinical Research Assistant II may be responsible for:
  • Consents and recruits patients/families for research studies both in-person and over the phone.
  • Provides detailed background information regarding studies to families, communicates all policies and procedures, and responds to all inquiries.
  • Evaluates suitability of prospective study candidates and makes selections based upon clinical knowledge of each study.
  • Serves as liaison to the families/patients in the research studies, guiding and advising them throughout each phase of the study.
  • Acts as a resource to study participants, addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Troubleshoots resolution of any issues that may arise throughout the studies.
  • Coordinates and prepares the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board IRB submissions, together with the Principal Investigators.
  • Creates and prepares data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to study research team for review and analysis.
  • Writes articles and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals, as may be requested/necessary.
  • Participates in the training of newly hired research study assistants, as required.
  • Communicates project policies and procedures to personnel.
  • Monitors and reviews data collection and data entry, and informed consent procedures ensuring consistency of application for each study.
  • Performs other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • Work requires the level of knowledge typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in STEM or Psychology.
  • A minimum of one year of research/clinical research experience is required.
  • Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • This individual must be able to work independently and have strong writing, analysis and organizational skills.
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
  • Well-developed communication skills in order to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and the ability to mediate fair solutions.
  • Advanced writing skills.
